Constructive criticism helps a person to improve whereas negative – can lower a person’s self-esteem.So it’s very importand to learn how to react to negative criticism and how to handle it. Your post in this way is very useful.

Good for you, K! You seem to have developed that thick skin that allows you to deal even with toxic critics – by taking only what might benefit you and leaving out what you don’t need! That’s a great way to deal with the criticism – try to learn from it as much as you can. Thank you very much for sharing!

I can even somehow cope with so called ‘toxic’ criticism if it comes from a person with high competency levels – I know I’m learning something from it. But what I do not understand at all is when people criticize or make comments just for the sake of making a comment. I never accept any criticism if I sense there is no wisdom behind it.

Very true! Whether we want it or not, to some extent we all depend on the society’s approval.

Hi Jason, thank you for commenting on these points. It’s very true about our emotions taking over anytime we hear criticism. And I do believe whether we realize it or not, we are all feeling under the pressure of gaining and keeping the society’s approval.

One of the problems that many of us are dealing with in today’s society is even admitting that there may be anything at all wrong with something that we have either said or done.
Excellent points Natella that also help us to better understand the intentions behind the criticism we receive and how we can use that criticism to assist in our own personal or professional development.
