Hi Jason this is so true. The strategy you are talking about is FUD – Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. It’s a legitimate but often dishonest strategy commonly used by politicians, businesses and other organizations to justify their decisions and to influence public opinion. What you are describing here is a perfect case of FUD at play. And yes it’s very unfortunate that there will are those shady individuals who capitalize on situations like this and try to blend in among refugees and other vulnerable status people. If any of them succeed at their plan it only further fuels FUD and goes to further justify the actions of those in power.

Leaders have mastered the art of using fear to justify immoral decisions as well as gain support amongst all levels of government and the public in pursuit of their agendas. It’s a tactic that is still working today as we have witnessed south of our border. One of the biggest challenges and unfortunate realities is that bad individuals will get through amongst the innocent and when these bad individuals do harm in whatever form or fashion they choose, the leaders will have further ammunition to use fear in justifying their actions.
The hope is that common sense can be used to find a balance between securing the borders and protecting the public vs. allowing immigrant parents and their children a chance at a safe and secure life and a chance to pursue their dreams.
