I agree with you Melissa. Inequality is a big downside of these type of revolutions. The true success of Industry 4.0 would be determined by how well the changes are accepted across the borders.

Thank you for sharing Vanessa. I completely agree with you about the importance of developing our people skills, the main differentiator between the humans and robots in workplaces. In fact I don’t even believe that we should refer to this skill set as “soft”.

I would like to point out that in preparation for the era of full automation and digitization that’s being discussed here we should be emphasizing more the importance of improving our soft or people skills. This is especially true for the younger generations who are growing up with gadgets in their hands since earlier ages and who do not get to develop their interpersonal skills as much.

There is a lot more to say about the concentration of wealth and benefits in the hands of a small fraction of people and the growing gap between countries and continents.

Dear Alan, thank you very much for sharing your perspective on this subject. I am glad you share the techno-optimistic view. I believe this is the only way to go and it goes well with the Quality in Quality Out concept that I am promoting. We can choose to sit there and blame automation for job losses and other problems (which would be more along the lines of Garbage in Garbage out thinking), or we can choose to take action today and commit to better results for tomorrow – Quality in Quality out. Hope to hear from you again.

And I know that with time more and more fields will be affected by this tendency. However I choose to remain techno-optimistic as they say. There are things we can do – as experts in our fields we should remain ahead of the game by furthering our knowledge and advancing our skills on-goingly. And as managers and leaders we should focus on creating the learning environments for our teams where they can constantly grow and develop themselves instead of stagnating and becoming an easy target for replacement with machines.
