On a more serious note maybe that is what kids/teenagers need these days – an element of surprise from their parents. Otherwise, we, with our parenting methods, might be getting a bit too predictable for them :).

Thank you for your feedback Natella. I would love to see the look on my daughter’s face if I opened up a Root Cause Analysis followed by a Corrective Action Report the next time she acts up. Hi Jason, you are right, it’s more about disliking our children’s behavior at times, rather than disliking the children themselves (even though I must admit the latter makes for a catchier post title :). I like your point about looking into underlying causes behind certain behavior – which brings us to Root Cause Analysis, another tool from Quality Management. Sometimes those messages behind actions are loud and clear, some other times they are not so easy to decipher. Our children are growing up so rapidly too. I just hope we get a chance to teach all we are meant to teach them before they venture off into the big world without us being right next to them as their safety net.
